Borussia Dortmund reportedly set to target Alexander Prass
The summer transfer window seems to be stalling a bit for Borussia Dortmund in terms of their expected transfers. Recent reports have suggested that a move for Serhou Guirassy may fall through due to an unexpected twist in terms of the player's medical.
Whilst one move could possibly fall through, it could be the catalyst that allows for other transfers to take place that target other areas on the pitch. Dortmund still have three strikers on their books, but the fullback and midfield positions, which are arguably more important in terms of this rebuild, have yet to be touched by any of the club’s transfer business.
Ample speculation has suggested that the likes of Emre Can, Salih Özcan and Felix Nmecha can all leave the club if suitable offers come Dortmund’s way which means that, particularly in midfield, there could theoretically be a very big shift in terms of personnel. Brighton’s Pascal Groß has already been named as one of the players to come in and challenge these aforementioned players for a spot on the pitch, but more would surely have to come in if some of these players were to leave.
One name in particular that has begun to circulate is that of Sturm Graz midfielder Alexander Prass, per the printed version of Austrian outlet Kleine Zeitung. The Austrian international put in some exemplary performances for his country during the Euros, and chipped in with 8 goals and 4 assists for his club in the Austrian Bundesliga and Europa League this season.
In terms of player profile, Prass is more of an offensive midfielder and would most likely be a replacement for the likes of Felix Nmecha should he depart the club. While not exactly the same profile of player, his skill set is focused on carrying the ball forward and being an attacking threat for his side, which is exemplified by his 0.18 non penalty goals, 2.11 progressive carries and 3.16 successful take-ons per 90.
Prass doesn’t necessarily fit the bill for the type of midfielder one would expect Dortmund to focus on bringing in, which one would think would be more in the profile of a defensive 6 to compete with or replace Can and Özcan. He does however represent what would likely be a relatively affordable option to bring in a creative, incisive and attack-minded player to help perhaps provide relief for the likes of Marcel Sabitzer, while also replacing the (up to now) ineffective Nmecha, who’s also been used in more of an attacking 8 (and sometimes 10) position.
According to the report, his valuation is closer to 12 million euros and the player has reportedly been given the green light it negotiate with other clubs. While there's nothing advanced to talk about at this stage, a move for Prass could become more feasible if the club has some departures in the near future.
