Borussia Dortmund reportedly target Newcastle United's Yankuba Minteh
With a new era set to begin at Borussia Dortmund under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Nuri Şahin, the club is set to see many changes in the pitch, including personnel-wise. Şahin's vision would usher in a new look Dortmund, with quite a few players from the Dutch Eredivisie on the former Dortmund and Real Madrid player's radar.
One such player is Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh. The 19 year old Gambia international has had a sensational season in the Netherlands on loan with Dutch side Feyenoord, scoring ten times and providing five assists across 27 league appearances. The player has also excelled in terms of shot-creating actions (5.81), progressive carries (7.85) and progressive passes received (16.32) per 90, with these numbers, coupled with his goal and assist numbers, really highlighting the player as an attacking threat.
A capable dribbler and progressor of the ball, Minteh would make a very exceptional signing for Dortmund on the wing. Per reports, the player is being considered in the event that Jadon Sancho is unattainable for another loan or if either Donyell Malen or Karim Adeyemi depart for pastures new. The player is valued at 16 million euros but if Newcastle were to sell it wouldn't be shocking if they brought their asking price closer to 30-35 million euros, especially considering both the player's performances in the Netherlands, coupled with his contract until 2028.
Interest in Minteh may become more concrete in the coming weeks as possible deals for Dortmund's other wingers become more realistic. So much was said about the departure of Donyell Malen in the winter, but now things have seemingly quieted down a bit. In contrast, Adeyemi seems to have garnered interest from the likes of Juventus. Despite these links it was earlier noted by Sebastian Khel that Adeyemi is not for sale this summer, which puts a damper on any rumors associated with the German forward's potential exit.
The most likely scenario then seems to be that Minteh could possibly come in for Sancho should Dortmund fail to strike a deal with Manchester United. With Erik ten Hag set to stay in Manchester, however, a return to United seems like a not-so-palatable answer for both the player and coach. it's been clear for some time that Sancho has enjoyed his return to Dortmund and it would be only natural for the winger to stay.
In the event that one of these players do leave however, Dortmund have a very interesting option to consider in the form of Minteh. The young winger from Gambia has an exciting player profile and could join Die Schwarzgelben and become a star in the Bundesliga for many years to come.
