Young Borussia Dortmund winger Samuel Bamba is set to make the switch to local rivals VfL Bochum on a free transfer.

Samuel Bamba will officially leave Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires at the end of the month. And according to BILD, the winger is now set to join BVB's Ruhr rivals VfL Bochum on a free transfer. The 20 year old made his Bundesliga debut for the Black and Yellows this season, and was also hailed as a difference maker by head coach Edin Terzic.

But Bamba wasn't able to build on those appearances and featured primarily for the Borussia Dortmund U-23s in the second half of the season. And it quickly became apparent that his expiring contract would not be extended. He scored three goals and assisted a further three in 30 appearances in all competitions across various age groups this season.

The winger will now be determined to continue his development at VfL Bochum, where he will likely be a part of the first-team squad. A number of former Borussia Dortmund youngsters have established themselves at the first-team level at Bochum in recent years, including Patrick Osterhage and Moritz Broschinski. And Bamba will be keen to follow in their footsteps.

VfL Bochum narrowly avoided relegation from the Bundesliga this season, coming from three goals behind to defeat Fortuna Düsseldorf in the playoff round. The Ruhr club will hope for a much better showing in the German top flight next season, and Bamba may well have a crucial role to play in their survival bid.
