Bundesliga Roundup: Wins for the top five, relegation battle heats up

The top five teams in the Bundesliga standings all registered wins on matchday 26, and there was another twist in the battle to avoid relegation, while Christian Streich has announced that he will be leaving SC Freiburg at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen continued their incredible unbeaten run at SC Freiburg on Sunday, claiming a 3-2 win in a topsy-turvy contest. Florian Wirtz, Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick were all on the score-sheet for Xabi Alonso's side as they maintained their ten point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings. Ritsu Dōan and Yannick Keitel scored for Freiburg, but it wasn't enough to snatch a point away from Leverkusen.

Christian Streich announced on Monday that he will be stepping down as SC Freiburg head coach at the end of the season after 12 years at the helm.

Bayern Munich enjoyed a goal glut once again, as they came from behind to beat Darmstadt 5-2. Harry Kane continued his record-breaking scoring run for the Bavarians, while Jamal Musiala scored a brace, and Serge Gnabry and Matthys Tel were also on target.

Borussia Dortmund extended their winning run to four games, as they got the better of Eintracht Frankfurt at home. Goals from Karim Adeyemi, Mats Hummels, and Emre Can gave Edin Terzic's side the 3-1 win after Mario Götze had opened the scoring early on.

RB Leipzig dispatched FC Köln 5-1 to continue their push to finish in the top four. Loïs Openda scored a brace for Leipzig, and Xavi Simons, Amadou Haidara, and Yussuf Poulsen also found the back of the net.

VfB Stuttgart continued their stunning run of form as they dispatched Hoffenheim 3-0, with Enzo Millot, Serhou Guirassy, and Jamie Leweling on the score-sheet.

Mainz 05 boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation as a brace from Jonathan Burkardt helped them earn a 2-0 win against VfL Bochum. The win helped the 05ers move out of the automatic relegation spots at Köln's expense.

FC Augsburg moved up to seventh place with an imppressive 3-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg. Goals from Arne Maier and Kristijan Jakić saw Wolfsburg fall to yet another defeat. And Niko Kovac paid the price as he was sacked after the game, with Ralph Hasenhüttl replacing him.

Union Berlin continued their impressive recent run, earning a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen thanks to goals from Yorbe Vertessen and Brenden Aaronson. Frustrations continued for Borussia Mönchengladbach as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Heidenheim, after Eren Dinkçi cancelled out Robin Hack's opener.
