Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche could be a candidate to replace Hans-Joachim Watzke when he steps down as Borussia Dortmund CEO.

Hans-Joachim Watzke announced earlier this year that he would be leaving his post as Borussia Dortmund CEO in 2025 after more than two decades with the club. The search for his successor has already begun, and while Sebastian Kehl appears to be among the front-runners to replace Watzke, the name of Markus Krösche is also being floated around.

According to SportBILD, the 43 year old would be open to a move to Borussia Dortmund. And while there have not been any talks as of yet, a move to BVB would be feasible as his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt expires at the end of the 2024/25 season. Krösche was also reportedly considered by the BVB bosses following Michael Zorc's retirement in 2022. But those in charge decided to appoint Sebastian Kehl then.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder could now be in line for another promotion. And if he ends up replacing Watzke, the club would need a new sporting director.

Krösche has sparked an impressive turnaround at Eintracht Frankfurt since joining the club in 2021. He has made a number of shrewd and exciting signings over the years, and also led the Eagles to the UEFA Europa League title in 2022.

Watzke will no longer be taking part in sporting decisions at the club beyond the end of the season. So he will be eager to have a successor in place before long. And it will certainly be interesting to see how this situation unfolds in the coming months.
