Edin Terzić has changed the makeup of Borussia Dortmund’s Leadership Council
Borussia Dortmund managed to get all three points away from home against Bayern Munich this weekend in what many thought was going to be yet another one sided affair between the two clubs. This “Der Klassiker” gave way to a pleasant surprise as Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson netted for Die Schwarzgelben and Alexander Meyer kept a clean sheet.
The result is a crucial one for the club, which needed the points as they fight to secure a Champions League football for next season, but it was also a very important result of head coach Edin Terzić, who himself is fighting to keep his position at the club. Recent results have been going in Terzić’s favor, but a win against Bayern has made him borderline “untouchable” per Sky Sports.
While many would tell you that Terzić still has a long way to go to regain the faith of Dortmund’s following, the results do make one think that the club are once again getting comfortable with the idea of extending Terzić’s tenure. So far since the new year, Dortmund have won eight league games out of 11 total in the league, with the only loss being to Hoffenheim.
Terzić is taking further steps to secure his place in the team, however. Dortmund’s head coach has decided to make changes to the club’s leadership council. Nico Schlotterbeck, Marcel Sabitzer and Julian Ryerson seem to have replaced Marco Reus, Niklas Süle and Sébastien Haller.
The names replaced, in the case of Reus and Süle in particular, are players that Terzić has allegedly not fully seen eye to eye with in the last few months. This change is credited with the additional success on the pitch in recent weeks. Of course, the move could also have been to limit dissenting voices.
Terzić’s future with the club, while not fully secure, is leaning towards safer, less turbulent waters. With the club still in the Champions League and fighting for top four in the league, the outcomes at the end of the season in each respective competition will be the final determinant in terms of Terzić’s future. Adding more favorable voices to the team leadership council could be a sort of preparatory move should Terzić’s tenure continue beyond this season in terms of team structure moving forward.
