Edin Terzic was left angered by referee Daniel Siebert for his failure to award Borussia Dortmund a penalty when Karim Adeyemi went down inside the box against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund managed to hold on for a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday despite being under the cosh for the majority of the 90 minutes. The Black and Yellows defended well without offering much in attack. But Edin Terzic felt that his side should have been awarded a penalty in the second-half when Karim Adeyemi went down inside the box after contact with Edmond Tapsoba.

The BVB head coach bemoaned the lack of fairness, claiming that his side often get the short end of the stick in these situations. In an interview with DAZN, Terzic said:

"There are no two opinions about it for me. There was clear contact, it's a clear penalty. We were denied a great opportunity to make it 2-0. And that's what I told the referee. In Stuttgart, we were told that there was clear contact and a penalty had to be given. Here I'm told that there wasn't enough contact. We talk about VAR week after week. We discuss clear wrong decisions, handballs and fouls and now there's not enough contact?"

"That's what really upsets me, because it's not fair. The penalties that are given against us, whether in the Bundesliga or Champions League, are all out of proportion to what happened here."

Terzic also lamented the fact that Exequiel Palacios was not sent off after committing what he felt were two yellow card worthy offences.

Daniel Siebert commented on his decision to not award Borussia Dortmund a penalty in an interview with BILD on Monday. He said that the contact was very minimal, and hence not worthy of a foul. The referee added that Terzic's statements were incomprehensible to him.

"The contact on Adeyemi's right thigh was so minimal that it did not cause the fall. I can understand his point of view for this isolated incident. But you have to look at it in the overall context of the game. If I don't give a penalty for Leverkusen in a similar incident between Can and Palacios, then of course I can't do the same on the other side. That's why the coach's statements are incomprehensible to me."

Terzic will hope that his side can return to winning ways on Wednesday as they take on VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal.
