Emre Can feels that Borussia Dortmund deserved their win over Club Brugge after overcoming a tough test in their UEFA Champions League opener away from home.

Borussia Dortmund began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win on Wednesday evening as they overcame the challenge of Club Brugge. Despite the scoreline, the two teams were very closely matched. But late goals from Jamie Gittens and Serhou Guirassy made the difference and helped the Black and Yellows claim the all-important three points.

Emre Can: Borussia Dortmund deserved their win against Club Brugge

BVB captain Emre Can, who made his return to the starting XI on Wednesday, felt that they got the job done despite not being at their very best. The midfielder added that while there is room for improvement, Borussia Dortmund deserved the three points.

"It wasn't a top performance, but we'll take the win. It's not easy to play here, but we still deserved to win in the end," Can told DAZN. "The game was a bit sluggish and we hardly found any solutions in the final third. Nevertheless, we had a lot of possession, but then we weren't good at counter-pressing. There is definitely room for improvement. It wasn't all good, but we'll take the three points and that's what counts."

Another tricky test lies in store for Borussia Dortmund this weekend as they make the trip to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. While the Swabians have not had the best of starts to the seasons, they have shown glimpses of their quality and caused Real Madrid a fair few problems in the Champions League on Tuesday.

It will be interesting to see if Emre Can retains his place in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI on Sunday. The Germany international was left out of the lineup for the home game against Heidenheim in the Bundesliga last week, but played from the start against Club Brugge.
