Borussia Dortmund have extended the contract of Gio Reyna by one year, and the attacking midfielder will spend the second half of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Gio Reyna has completed a temporary move away from Borussia Dortmund, joining Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season. The USMNT international has also signed a contract extension with the Black and Yellows that will keep him at the club until 2026. The loan deal does not include a buy option.

It was heavily reported last month that Reyna was keen to secure a move away from Borussia Dortmund after being frustrated by his lack of playing time. A number of clubs in Europe were interested, but he ultimately decided to join Nottingham Forest. He will hope to play regularly in the English Premier League in the coming months in a bid to make an impact on those in charge at BVB, or secure a move elsewhere in the summer.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said that Gio Reyna is a player they rate very highly. And they are looking forward to following his progress in the coming months. "We are delighted to have extended Gio's contract by a further year ahead of schedule. He is a player who has enormous talent and we see a lot of potential in him."

"Gio approached us in the last few days with the wish to play for Nottingham Forest until the end of the season. We complied and now hope Gio enjoys maximum sporting success during his six months in England."

The 21 year old could make his Nottingham Forest debut this weekend against Bournemouth in the English Premier League.
