Gio Reyna's father Claudio was in Dortmund recently to hold an hour-long meeting with Sebastian Kehl amid the attacking midfielder's uncertain future at BVB.
With his current contract set to expire at the end of next season, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Gio Reyna. The attacking midfielder has found playing time very hard to come by at Borussia Dortmund this season, and there have been claims recently that he could be in line for a loan move in January.
According to BILD, the 21 year old's father and advisor Claudio Reyna was at Borussia Dortmund's training ground earlier this month. The former United States international held an hour-long meeting with BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl to discuss his son's future.
The tabloid adds that those in charge at Borussia Dortmund are convinced of Gio Reyna's potential and game-changing ability. But the competition for places in attacking midfield has led to limited minutes on the pitch for the USMNT international. Reyna is competing with Julian Brandt and Marco Reus for a spot in the starting XI, and often finds himself on the bench as a result.
Reyna has made a total of 11 appearances so far this season for Borussia Dortmund, and has yet to register a goal or an assist. Of those appearances, only two have come from the starting XI.
Both Borussia Dortmund and Gio Reyna will be keen to ensure that his future is resolved before heading into the final 12 months of his contract. The coming six months will be crucial for the attacking midfielder as he looks to try and secure a contract extension with BVB or a move elsewhere.
