Gregg Berhalter understands Gio Reyna's frustrations at Borussia Dortmund

United States head coach Gregg Berhalter has said that he supports Gio Reyna's wish to leave Borussia Dortmund in search of more playing time.
It has become increasingly apparent that Gio Reyna is keen to leave Borussia Dortmund after being reduced to a bit-part role under Edin Terzic. A number of clubs are said to be interested in signing the 21 year old, who has been limited to just 321 minutes on the pitch so far this season.
Gregg Berhalter has now had his say on the matter, and the USMNT head coach understands why Reyna may want to leave Borussia Dortmund. "I think that any professional who is competitive wants to be on the field and this is a case where Gio hasn't been getting the game time that he wants and potentially looking for alternate options and that's completely understandable," Berhalter said (via ESPN).
"You've seen in our player pool throughout the years, that's a pretty common reaction. So, we support him and his quest to get on the field regularly and look forward to the outcome of that."
It remains to be seen if Reyna will manage to secure a move from Borussia Dortmund before the January transfer window closes in just under two weeks' time. With his current contract expiring at the end of next season, the Black and Yellows will likely push for a permanent transfer in order to generate some funds.
Marseille, AS Monaco, Real Sociedad, SL Benfica, and Aston Villa have all been linked with a move for Gio Reyna. The attacking midfielder, who last started a game for Borussia Dortmund in November, has 17 goals and 16 assists to his name in 119 appearances for the club.
