Julian Nagelsmann was full of praise of Pascal Groß after the Borussia Dortmund midfielder did a fine job of replacing Toni Kroos in Germany's 5-0 win over Hungary.

Germany kick-started their new era with a 5-0 win over Hungary this past weekend. Jamal Musiala was the star of the show for Julian Nagelsmann's side. But in midfield, Pascal Groß also made a strong impression on the Germany head coach.

After the game, Nagelsmann was full of praise of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder and compared him with the man he has been tasked with replacing. "He does a lot of things like Toni. He wants the ball at his feet, he has an eye for passes and finding space. He played well. We have a lot of confidence in him," Nagelsmann said.

Toni Kroos called time on his playing career after representing Germany at the European Championship this past summer. Replacing the former Real Madrid player will certainly not be an easy task, but Germany have a number of talented players vying for the spot, including Groß, Alexander Pavlovic, and Angelo Stiller.

Pascal Groß joined Borussia Dortmund this summer after spending the last seven seasons at Brighton & Hove Albion. He has made a strong start to life at BVB, with three assists to his name in three appearances.

The game against Hungary marked the ninth appearance in Germany colours for Groß. With the FIFA World Cup two years away, the 33 year old will have his sights set on cementing his place in the starting XI for his national team going into the tournament.
