Borussia Dortmund are set to hand Cole Campbell his first professional contract, with the 18 year old forward rated very highly at the club.

Cole Campbell made big waves with his performances for the Borussia Dortmund U-19s last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further 13 in 32 appearances. Now, he is set to be rewarded with his first professional contract, with Ruhr Nachrichten reporting that only a few minor details need to be clarified before the news of the extension can be made official.

According to the newspaper, the young forward will continue to play for the Borussia Dortmund U-19s during the first half of next season. And depending on how his development goes in the coming months, he could then be promoted to the first-team or the U-23s in the 3. Liga.

Campbell got his first taste of professional football in January as he was part of Borussia Dortmund’s training camp squad in Marbella. While the call-up was overshadowed by him breaking curfew in Spain, the 18 year old did showcase glimpses of his quality.

Born in Houston, Campbell began his football career in Iceland before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2022. He also represented the Iceland U-17s, but decided to change affiliation to the United States earlier this year. He made his US U-19s debut in March, and will now look to follow in the footsteps of Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna by breaking into the Borussia Dortmund first-team.

Nuri Sahin is also expected to include Cole Campbell in the Borussia Dortmund first-team squad for their upcoming pre-season preparations. And strong performances during pre-season could go a long way in helping him kick-start his first-team aspirations.
