Ian Maatsen has said that he feels he has been playing with his teammates for several years, having registered his first assist for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund maintained their strong start to 2024 on Saturday with a 4-0 win over FC Köln. One of the Black and Yellows' top performers in the win was Ian Maatsen, who put in an excellent display on both ends and also delivered an excellent pass to set up Donyell Malen's goal in the second-half.

It was another strong showing from Maatsen, who has slotted in seamlessly at Borussia Dortmund since joining on loan from Chelsea last week. The left-back has shown a lot of promise, and there have already been calls for BVB to sign him permanently when his loan spell ends in the summer.

Maatsen said after Saturday's game that he is feeling very much at home at Borussia Dortmund. He also praised the BVB supporters and added that he is looking forward to playing in front of the Yellow Wall against VfL Bochum next weekend.

"I feel like I've been playing with the boys for several years," Maatsen said (via Ruhr Nachrichten). "Our performance was good, we scored four goals. I'm happy to be here. And I like being on the ball a lot."

(On his assist) "I was a bit careless, but I won the ball back quickly. There was a lot of space behind the Köln defenders. Donyell scored from my pass and I got my first assist for the club."

"The fans are amazing, they give us a big boost. It's a big club, we want to win trophies. I can hardly wait for my first home game, I've already heard a lot about the stadium, about the Yellow Wall."

As for his future beyond the end of the season, Maatsen said that he is keeping all options open at the moment. "After the season we will have to decide, I'm leaving all my options open."

Reports have claimed that Ian Maatsen has a release clause of 35 million euros in his Chelsea contract that will be active next summer.
