Borussia Dortmund CEO for sport Lars Ricken has commented on the future of Sebastian Kehl, whose contract as sporting director is set to expire at the end of the season.
Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sebastian Kehl has been the club's sporting director since 2022. His current contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the season, and talks between the two parties over an extension have seemingly already taken place.

Lars Ricken was asked to comment on Kehl's future on Saturday during his appearances on the ZDF-Sportstudio on Saturday. And the Borussia Dortmund CEO for sport said that they are holding talks on the 44 year old's future. "Sebastian knows how much I value him. He has been here for 22 years now. It was agreed that we would sit down and talk after the summer transfer window. We have also started those talks," Ricken said (via Kicker).
"We had a really good transfer window. Now it's about bringing all the skills together. I'm holding the talks with Sebastian internally. We have both agreed that the discussions will remain internal."
Kehl made it clear earlier this month that he loves Borussia Dortmund and his desire would be to stay at the club. "Together we have built something special here. I would really enjoy continuing that," he said.
The three-time Bundesliga winner has led the overhaul of the BVB squad over the last three summers, and has made a number of shrewd squad planning decisions. And the likelihood remains that the two parties will reach an agreement over a contract extension.
Sebastian Kehl made 362 appearances for Borussia Dortmund as a player and returned to the club after his retirement, first as the head of the licensed players' department, and now in the role of sporting director.
