Spanish side RCD Mallorca have reportedly joined the race to sign Mats Hummels, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund.
Mats Hummels is attracting the interest of several clubs in Europe, and RCD Mallorca have now seemingly joined the race for his signature. This is being reported by Sky Sport, who add that the veteran centre-back would be interested in a move to La Liga.
Could Mats Hummels be set for a move to La Liga?
Mallorca are reportedly willing to pay Hummels an annual salary of around three million euros, although concrete talks have not yet been held between the two parties. Hummels would be open to a transfer to Mallorca as he already owns a house there.
Borussia Dortmund announced last week that the contract of Hummels will not be extended despite his exemplary performances in defence this season. The 35 year old played a crucial role in BVB’s run to the Champions League final. But his time at the club came to a contentious end after his controversial comments about Edin Terzic’s tactics on the eve of the clash against Real Madrid.
Hummels will leave Borussia Dortmund as the club's second highest appearance maker of all time. The defender made a total of 508 appearances for the Black and Yellows.
Mats Hummels has been heavily linked with a move to Italy in recent weeks, with AC Milan, AS Roma, and Juventus leading the race for his signature. Now, Mallorca are also interested. And while they only finished 15th in La Liga last season, the prospect of living on the island of Mallorca could sway Hummels in favour of a move to Spain.
