Jadon Sancho’s situation at Manchester United has been one of great interest this summer, with the player’s future remaining very much open heading into the final days of the transfer window. Recent reports indicated moves to either Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea may be on the cards for the former Borussia Dortmund winger.

Dortmund themselves had also been reportedly negotiating with United to have Sancho remain at the Westfalenstadion after his six-month loan at the club came to an end. These talks seemed to end based on United’s unyielding nature regarding the parameters of a deal, which were meant to be a sale for a significantly higher fee than Dortmund could afford. Recent reports from Manchester have not only reported a drop in fee, but now also indicate that United would be willing to let Sancho go on loan, which, Dortmund was previously open to pursuing.

Sancho scored three goals and provided three assists upon his return to Dortmund last January across the Bundesliga and the Champions League, which on its own clearly doesn’t warrant the club paying the extortionate fee that United was reportedly asking for. He did however show glimpses of the player that the Die Schwarzgelben faithful remembered from his first stint, and that laid the groundwork for a budding hope that in Dortmund, he could be rehabilitated back to his very best.

The ability to loan the player may reopen the door for negotiations between the two clubs for a potential move, but as we’ve previously explored it may take more than just United’s openness to part ways with the player to bring such a move to fruition, or for such a move to even make sense. Dortmund seems very keen to rely on Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julien Duranville in addition to Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi out on the wing. Either a shift in position for certain players or a departure would be necessary for Dortmund to consider any sort of move. Regardless, these developments are worth noting, especially if there’s any substance to previous claims that the lines of communication between Dortmund and United are indeed still open regarding Sancho.
