Borussia Dortmund would like to sell Salih Özcan before the summer transfer window closes, but the midfielder is hoping to stay at the club.

Salih Özcan has fallen out of favour at Borussia Dortmund, and was left out of the matchday squad for the DFB-Pokal first round tie against Phönix Lübeck. More time on the sidelines could be on the cards for the Turkish international, who is free to leave the club.

Competition for places is high in the Borussia Dortmund midfield

Following the signing of Pascal Groß and the emergence of Kjell Wätjen as a first-team option, the competition for places is high in the Borussia Dortmund midfield. Özcan has fallen down the pecking order and will find playing time hard to come by this season, with the likes of Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer, and Felix Nmecha among the team's other midfield options.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund would like to sell Özcan. But the defensive midfielder feels comfortable at the club and is not considering a move away at the moment. Whether his stance will change before the transfer window closes remains to be seen.

Borussia Dortmund signed Özcan from FC Köln in 2022. And while he made a promising start, he has not been able to press on and establish himself as a regular starter in the team. The 26 year old has made a total of 70 appearances for the Black and Yellows so far, and has two years left on his current contract.

Salih Özcan certainly has a decision to make in the coming days. Whether to accept his role and stay at BVB, or to join another club where he might get to play regularly.
