Niclas Füllkrug backs Borussia Dortmund teammates to earn Germany call-ups for Euro 2024
Niclas Füllkrug is confident that his Borussia Dortmund teammates will work hard to earn their spots in the Germany squad for this summer's European Championship.
Julian Nagelsmann raised some eyebrows earlier this month, as he named just one Borussia Dortmund player in the Germany squad for their friendly matches against France and the Netherlands. Niclas Füllkrug is BVB's only representative in the latest Germany squad, with the likes of Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, Mats Hummels, and Julian Brandt among those who failed to make the cut.
The striker admitted on Thursday that the situation is not easy for the players. But he backed them to work hard in the coming weeks and do all they can to make the Germany squad for Euro 2024. During a press conference as part of the Germany training camp, Füllkrug said: "The situation is tough for the boys. You can't deny that. But it is also a decision that the national coach has explained very well. The success of the team always comes first. But the boys will work very hard over the next two or three months to turn the situation around and make the squad for the European Championship."
Niclas Füllkrug has been ever-present for Germany since his breakthrough Bundesliga campaign with Werder Bremen last season. The Borussia Dortmund striker has scored ten goals in just 13 appearances for his national team. He also has 12 goals and ten assists to his name for the Black and Yellows this season.
Germany are set to host the European Championship this summer, and will go up against Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland during the group stage.
