"I get goosebumps thinking about it" - Niclas Füllkrug earns Germany call-up for Euro 2024
Niclas Füllkrug has become the latest player to earn a call-up to the Germany squad for this summer's European Championship.
After cementing himself as one of Germany's most consistent performers over the last two years, Niclas Füllkrug has been named in the squad for Euro 2024. The news was announced on the 1live radio show on Tuesday morning as part of the DFB's attempt to generate excitement about the full squad announcement, which will take place on Thursday.
Füllkrug appeared on the broadcast and said that it is an honour to be called up to the Germany squad for the European Championship on home soil. "I get goosebumps when I think about it. It makes me so proud."
It has been a season full of ups and downs for Füllkrug, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Werder Bremen last summer. The 31 year old has 16 goals and ten assists to his name in 44 appearances across all competitions this season, and scored in both the quarterfinals and semifinals of his maiden UEFA Champions League campaign.
Niclas Füllkrug has been ever-present for the Germany national team since making his breakthrough at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The striker has 11 goals to his name in 15 appearances for his country, and will hope to make a big impact for Julian Nagelsmann's side at Euro 2024.
He becomes the second Borussia Dortmund player to be called up to Germany's Euro 2024 squad after Nico Schlotterbeck. The nominations of Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Chris Führich, and Aleksandar Pavlovic have also already been confirmed.
