Niklas Süle sets his sights on winning the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund

Niklas Süle is ready to play a key role for Borussia Dortmund this season and is determined to help the club win the Bundesliga title.

After an intense off-season, Niklas Süle is ready to win back his spot in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI and has set his sights on becoming Bundesliga champions. The centre-back is coming off a difficult season that saw him lose his spot in the BVB starting XI and the Germany national team. He is taking full blame for his struggles from last season, and worked very hard over the summer to get back into top shape.

As he gets ready for his third season with Borussia Dortmund, Süle wants to show what he is capable of and is keen to make his mark on the team. In an interview with Sport1, the 28 year old spoke about his goals for the season.

"I would love to win the Bundesliga. To do that, we have to realise that we are good enough. We proved that two years ago. And we didn't even have our best season then. We simply need a certain mentality. Just like Leverkusen, who often turned games around at the end with a lot of passion and belief, even in difficult situations. We have that in us too. I want to be champion this year! That's at the top of my sporting goals."

Süle believes that Borussia Dortmund will play more attack-minded football this season, which is well suited to his style of play. He is also relishing the competition for places following the arrival of Waldemar Anton from VfB Stuttgart.

"We want to have a lot of possession. That suits me very well. I've always had that at my previous clubs. Nevertheless, I'm a defender. I expect us to play high and courageously, and that's where good fitness and speed are needed."

Borussia Dortmund will begin their 2024/25 season this weekend, and Niklas Süle will hope to play from the start as they take on Phönix Lübeck in the DFB-Pokal.
