Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the appointment of Nuri Sahin as head coach, with the 35 year old putting pen to paper on a three year contract.
Following Edin Terzic’s decision to step down as head coach, Borussia Dortmund have moved quickly to appoint Nuri Sahin as his replacement. The former Turkey international has signed a three year contract with the Black and Yellows, and will lead the club’s bid to win the Bundesliga title next season.
"It is a great honour for me to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund. I would like to thank everyone at the club for the trust they have placed in me. I am very much looking forward to my task at BVB. From day one, we will do everything we can with great energy and passion to be successful," Sahin said.
This will be Sahin’s second managerial role, and he becomes Borussia Dortmund’s seventh head coach since the departure of Jürgen Klopp in 2015. Sahin was the head coach of Turkish club Antalyaspor from 2021-23, and returned to BVB as an assistant coach in January.
Sahin also enjoyed a glittering playing career and came through the youth team ranks at Borussia Dortmund and made 274 appearances for the first-team. He also played for Real Madrid and Liverpool, which no doubt helped him prepare for a career as a coach.
While he has shown glimpses of his prowess and potential as a trainer, the Borussia Dortmund job will offer Sahin with the biggest test yet of his fledgling coaching career. The former BVB midfielder will be keen to stamp his authority on the club, and a big debut season now lies in store for him.
