Nuri Sahin looks set to succeed Edin Terzic as Borussia Dortmund head coach following the latter's surprise decision to step down from the job.

Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the appointment of Nuri Sahin as head coach, with multiple reports claiming that only minor details need to be resolved before the 35 year old puts pen to paper on his contract. Sahin returned to BVB as assistant coach to Edin Terzic in January, and is now set to replace him as head coach.

Terzic made the shock decision to resign as Borussia Dortmund head coach on Thursday, revealing that he feels the club would be better suited with someone else leading the way on the touchline.

Sahin was the obvious replacement, having made 274 appearances for Borussia Dortmund as a player. The former BVB midfielder gained managerial experience at Antalyaspor, and is regarded very highly as a trainer. But the BVB top job will certainly be a major step up for him.

The pressure will also be on the Borussia Dortmund bosses, who will be desperate to get this coaching appointment right after years of constant upheaval at the club.

Nuri Sahin certainly has the attributes to become a top coach, and will hope to implement an attack-minded playing style at Borussia Dortmund. Terzic's pragmatic approach failed to win over the BVB supporters, and it will be interesting to see what style Sahin adopts.

The former Turkey international worked under several top coaches as a player, including Jürgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho. He will now hope to follow in their footsteps and lead Borussia Dortmund to success.
