Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender return to Borussia Dortmund as first-team coaches
Borussia Dortmund have announced the signings of Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender as part of Edin Terzic's coaching staff.
The spectacular returns of Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender have now been confirmed, with Borussia Dortmund revealing that the duo will form part of Edin Terzic's coaching staff. The duo will replace assistant coach Armin Reutershahn, who has made the decision to leave BVB having joined the club in January 2023.
Nuri Sahin left his position as Antalyaspor head coach to join Borussia Dortmund. The 35 year old is BVB's second youngest goalscorer of all time, and made a total of 274 appearances for the club across two spells. "When BVB asks, it's impossible for me to say no. Together as a coaching team, we will try to get the team back on the road to success. It feels very nice to be back home," Sahin said.
Sven Bender made 224 appearances for Borussia Dortmund and won two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal titles with the club. He was an assistant coach for the Germany U-17s, but is now back at BVB. "I've been in contact with Edin Terzic for some time now and know what makes him tick as a coach. When I was asked if I could imagine becoming an assistant coach at BVB, I thought about it and finally decided that I absolutely had to be back in Black & Yellow," Bender said.
The decision to bring in Sahin and Bender comes after Borussia Dortmund's disappointing first half of the season. Edin Terzic came under fire for the team's underwhelming performances in the Bundesliga, but managed to hold on to his job.
The 41 year old said that he is delighted to have the two former BVB players on board. "It was my strong wish to bring Nuri and Sven on board as assistant coaches. We tried on several occasions in the past to make it happen. Nuri and Sven will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our team, and at the same time they can grow with us as very young coaches."
