Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup for FC Köln clash
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will be in Bundesliga action against FC Köln this weekend, looking to make it two wins in a row.
Another away game lies in store for Borussia Dortmund this weekend, and they will travel to the RheinEnergieSTADION to face the struggling FC Köln. The Black and Yellows will fancy their chances of getting the three points, but they cannot afford to take the Billy Goats lightly.
Edin Terzic will hope for a much improved performance from his side, even though they claimed a relatively straightforward 3-0 win over Darmstadt last weekend. Julian Brandt, Marco Reus, and Youssoufa Moukoko were on target in that game. Moukoko will hope for a spot in the starting XI on Saturday, while Jadon Sancho could also be in line for more minutes as he looks to get closer to full fitness.
Borussia Dortmund do have a few injury concerns ahead of the game, with Felix Nmecha, Julian Ryerson, and Karim Adeyemi sidelined; and Ramy Bensebaini and Sebastien Haller away on Africa Cup of Nations duty. Mats Hummels and Marco Reus are both dealing with illness and are doubts for Saturday's game. Emre Can appears to be another doubt, having missed training on Friday.
Here we take a look at how Borussia Dortmund could line up for their Bundesliga clash against FC Köln.
Gregor Kobel will start in goal on Saturday, fresh off his first away clean sheet in the Bundesliga this season. Nico Schlotterbeck will spearhead the defence, with Niklas Süle expected to start alongside him if Emre Can is unable to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday's game.
Thomas Meunier will likely start at right-back, with new signing Ian Maatsen set to play at left-back. The Dutch full-back made an instant impact on his BVB debut last weekend.
Salih Özcan will likely start in the number six role. The Turkish international will be keen to make an impact against his former club. Marcel Sabitzer will also start in the middle of the park, with Julian Brandt set to play as the attacking midfielder.
The Borussia Dortmund attack will quite possibly remain unchanged, with Jadon Sancho unlikely to be ready to play from the start. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Donyell Malen are set to start out wide, with Niclas Füllkrug the team's first-choice striker.
Expected Borussia Dortmund lineup vs FC Köln: Kobel - Meunier, Can, Schlotterbeck, Maatsen - Özcan, Sabitzer, Brandt - Malen, Bynoe-Gittens, Füllkrug
