Ramy Bensebaini unlikely to play again this season due to injury
Borussia Dortmund may well have to make do without Ramy Bensebaini for the rest of the season after the left-back picked up an injury on international duty.
Ramy Bensebaini picked up a knee ligament injury while on international duty with Algeria last week, and Edin Terzic revealed during his press conference on Thursday that the left-back now faces several weeks on the sidelines. The BVB head coach said that Bensebaini will not be needing surgery, but is unlikely to play again this season.
The injury potentially marks an unfortunate end to what has been an underwhelming debut season at Borussia Dortmund for Bensebaini. The 28 year old joined the Black and Yellows on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, but hasn't been able to make the desired impact.
Ramy Bensebaini has made a total of 25 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season, but lost his spot in the starting XI in January following the arrival of Ian Maatsen on loan in January.
Despite his lack of playing time in recent weeks, Bensebaini's injury is a big blow for Borussia Dortmund as it leaves them light at left-back. Ian Maatsen is the only other natural left-back in the team. And with crunch games coming up in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League, he is now in for some gruelling assignements over the next few weeks without any break. Julian Ryerson, Marius Wolf and Nico Schlotterbeck are the other players who could slot in at left-back if Maatsen needs a break.
