This was the last season when Dortmund had a Winter/Christmas edition jersey. Puma discontinued it after the club's 1-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen on December 7, 2013. It was a chippy game at the Westfalenstadion with six yellow cards and two red cards. Sokratis Papastathopoulos was kicked out two minutes into stoppage time, while Leverkusen's Emir Saphic received a straight red in the 80th minute.

Unlike the previous season, Puma gave some thought to the design. It was not just a simple shirt to be worn during the holidays. It finally had meaning and it was a very good one.

The 2013-14 Special Edition Winter/Christmas kits were inspired by Dortmund's Yellow Wall. Every jersey has a unique cutout of the Yellow Wall, making it a rare piece of clothing. It paid homage to the largest standing terrace in Europe or the Südtribüne.
