Report: Besiktas interested in appointing Nuri Sahin as head coach
Turkish giants Besiktas are reportedly looking to appoint Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Nuri Sahin as their next first-team manager.
Nuri Sahin made a stunning return to Borussia Dortmund in January, joining the club as an assistant first-team coach. But he is already being linked with a head coach job in Turkey, with Yağız Sabuncuoğlu of Sports Digitale claiming that he is on top of Besiktas' list of targets. According to the report, Besiktas have already contacted Sahin and Borussia Dortmund to ask about the 35 year old's availability.
It remains to be seen how real Besiktas' interest is in appointing Sahin, and whether or not he would be interested in leaving Borussia Dortmund so soon after returning to the club.
Sahin enjoyed an impressive two-year spell as head coach of Turkish club Antalyaspor, but decided to return to Borussia Dortmund in January as part of Edin Terzic's coaching staff.
He said recently that he returned to BVB as he felt the club needed him, but also stated his desire to one day return to a head coach job. "I had the feeling that the club I had supported since my childhood needed me. It was a hard decision but I listened to heart and my heart said that the club needs you so you go back and help the club... One day I will be back and it will not be in four or five years. I am very ambitious. I want to lead a team," Sahin told Sky Sports.
Nuri Sahin came through the youth team ranks at Borussia Dortmund, and was part of the club's Bundesliga-winning side in the 2010/11 season. He made a total of 274 appearances for the Black and Yellows, and also played for the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and Werder Bremen before retiring to pursue his coaching career.
