Report: Borussia Dortmund closing in on Ian Maatsen loan deal
Borussia Dortmund are seemingly close to sealing an agreement to sign left-back Ian Maatsen on loan from Chelsea.
Ian Maatsen appears to be on his way to Borussia Dortmund, with multiple reports claiming that talks over a loan deal are now at an advanced stage. The left-back is expected to join the Black and Yellows on an initial loan deal until the end of the season. According to Fabrizio Romano, an official offer has already been submitted by BVB and more details will be clarified soon between the two clubs.
The deal is likely to include an option or obligation to make the signing permanent at the end of the loan spell. Chelsea are keen to sell Maatsen this month and are pushing to make the purchase clause an obligation. While Borussia Dortmund will hope for a buy option at the end of the loan spell as it would give them more flexibility in the summer.
Sebastian Kehl and co. are keen to bring in a new left-back, with Julian Ryerson injured and Ramy Bensebaini currently on international duty with Algeria. If the move is completed in time, Maatsen could make his Borussia Dortmund debut this weekend as they take on SV Darmstadt.
Ian Maatsen is regarded as one of the most talented young left-backs in Europe, but has found playing time hard to come by at Chelsea this season. The 21 year old enjoyed an impressive campaign last season on loan at Burnley, and will hope to make a similar impact at Borussia Dortmund.
