Report: Borussia Dortmund have held initial talks with Sven Mislintat, with 51 year old keen on return
Borussia Dortmund have reportedly held initial discussions with Sven Mislintat with a view towards a potential return to the club.
A stunning comeback to Borussia Dortmund could be in the offing for Sven Mislintat, with Sky Sport reporting that the 51 year old has already held initial discussions with the club. The report adds that Mislintat can well imagine a return to BVB, seven years on from his acrimonious exit.
Nicknamed the Diamond Eye for his ability to spot talented players, Mislintat spent 19 years at Borussia Dortmund as a scout and played a key role in a number of the club's most successful signings. He left BVB to join Arsenal in 2017, and is currently out of a job, having left Dutch giants Ajax on the back of a disastrous six-month stint last year.
It remains to be seen how serious the BVB bosses' interest is in bringing Mislintat back to the club. But the Black and Yellows are set for a big shake-up off the pitch, with Hans-Joachim Watzke set to step down as the club's CEO next year. The 64 year old is expected to make a decision on his successor in the coming months.
Sebastian Kehl is considered to be one of the favourites to succeed Watzke, and Eintracht Frankfurt's Markus Krösche is also thought to be a candidate. If Kehl does indeed replace Watzke, Borussia Dortmund would need to appoint a new sporting director. And this could open the door for Mislintat to return to BVB.
