Report: New left-back a priority for Borussia Dortmund in January transfer window
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will reportedly prioritise signing a new left-back during the January transfer window following the injury to Julian Ryerson.
The lack of depth in the two full-back positions has been one of Borussia Dortmund's big issues so far this season. It has long been reported that the Black and Yellows will look to remedy that in January - even if CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke does not believe that there are any major personnel vacancies in the squad. And Ruhr Nachrichten are now claiming that signing a new left-back will be the club's top priority next month.
This comes after Julian Ryerson picked up a serious knee injury last week that will keep him out of action for up to two months. Ramy Bensebaini is also set to miss several games in January as he will be away with Algeria for the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to the newspaper, Borussia Dortmund's limited financial resources will likely dictate who they can sign next month. In addition, BVB are planning to make the highly rated Tom Rothe a regular part of the first-team squad next season when he returns from his loan spell at Holstein Kiel. So they make look for a temporary solution to fill the left-back void in January.
It will be interesting to see what moves Borussia Dortmund decide to make during the winter transfer window. There is a big chance that Thomas Meunier, Marius Wolf and Mateu Morey will all leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season. So vacancies are likely to open up at right-back as well.
