Report: Niklas Süle not thinking about Borussia Dortmund exit amid lack of playing time
By Tushar Bahl
Niklas Süle is reportedly keen to stay at Borussia Dortmund and force his way back into the starting XI despite his lack of playing time in recent months.
With Mats Hummels unavailable for the Bundesliga clash against Darmstadt on Saturday due to illness, Edin Terzic opted to field Emre Can in the starting XI ahead of Niklas Süle. It was another blow for the centre-back, who has found himself on the bench more often than not this season.
The 28 year old, who joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in 2022 and is one of the club's top earners, has struggled for form and fitness in recent months. This has naturally led to speculation about his future. And Sebastian Kehl also underlined recently that the defender must step up if he wants more playing time with the Black and Yellows.
But BILD claim that while Süle's relationship with BVB head coach Edin Terzic is not the most harmonious at the moment, the Germany international is not thinking about a move away from the club this month. Instead, he wants to stay and fight for his place, and force his way back into the starting XI.
Niklas Süle was used fairly regularly last season, but has been limited to just 1013 minutes of playing time so far in the current campaign. With the European Championship coming up at the end of the season, he will be keen to get more playing time at Borussia Dortmund and boost his hopes of a spot in the Germany squad.
