Report: Increasing signs that Sven Mislintat will join Borussia Dortmund this summer
It appears increasingly likely that Sven Mislintat will secure a spectacular return to Borussia Dortmund as the club's new squad planner this summer.
Borussia Dortmund are set for a huge shake-up off the pitch this summer, with Hans-Joachim Watzke's exit as the club's CEO on the horizon. As part of the changes to the sporting management, Sven Mislintat could be on his way back to the club.
This is being reported by Ruhr Nachrichten, who add that there are now increasing signs that Mislintat will return to Borussia Dortmund as the club's next sporting director. The 51 year old's work is highly valued by Watzke, who wants to ensure stability at the club after his exit.
According to the newspaper, one thing that remains uncertain is whether Mislintat and Sebastian Kehl will work together. It has long been reported that Kehl, who is currently the sporting director, is the leading contender to succeed Watzke. However, the report claims that Kehl's future is still up in the air, in part due to the fractious summer transfer window last year. The former BVB captain's current contract is set to expire in 2025.
No final decisions have yet been made, but that could change during the business end of the season in order to give those in charge enough time to prepare for the summer transfer window.
Sven Mislintat spent nearly two decades working for Borussia Dortmund, before joining Arsenal in 2017. He then returned to German football with VfB Stuttgart in 2019, before spending six months at Ajax as their director of football.
