Salih Özcan has completed his move to VfL Wolfsburg, joining the Bundesliga side on a straight loan deal until the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund wanted to part ways with Salih Özcan before the conclusion of the summer transfer window. And the defensive midfielder has now joined VfL Wolfsburg on a loan deal until the end of the season. The deal does not include an option to make the signing permanent. So as it stands, Özcan will return to BVB at the end of the season.

"The new competitive situation in our squad means that we can no longer offer Özcan the desired playing time in the current season. We have therefore mutually agreed to loan Salih to Wolfsburg for one season. We wish him maximum success for this year," Sebastian Kehl said.

Salih Özcan will hope for a regular starting spot at Wolfsburg

Özcan arrived at Borussia Dortmund from FC Köln two years ago, and enjoyed a solid start to life at the club. But he soon found himself behind Emre Can in the pecking order. And with BVB signing Pascal Groß from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer, Özcan would have found playing time even more difficult to come by.

The 26 year old has made a total of 70 appearances for Borussia Dortmund so far. He will hope that a strong season at Wolfsburg can either help him either return to the BVB squad next year or secure a permanent move to another club. Özcan still has two years left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund.
