Sebastian Kehl criticises poor Borussia Dortmund performance against Union Berlin
By Tushar Bahl
Sebastian Kehl was critical of Borussia Dortmund's performance against Union Berlin as they fell to their second defeat of the season.
Borussia Dortmund's struggles away from home continued on Saturday afternoon as they were handed a 2-1 defeat by Union Berlin. For the third Bundesliga game in a row, the Black and Yellows made a poor start and fell two goals behind in the first-half. However, unlike last week's game against VfL Bochum, they weren't able to turn things around.
"The way we concede goals is unacceptable" - Sebastian Kehl on Borussia Dortmund's defensive woes
The performance against Union Berlin left Sebastian Kehl frustrated. And the Borussia Dortmund sporting director did not mince his words when describing the team's showing.
"The way we concede goals is simply unacceptable. We have to defend our goal better and fight our duels better. The first-half was just nothing. We made too many bad passes. We've conceded eleven goals in the last four games. We have to defend our goal much better. We didn't implement the solutions we came up with in the run-up to the game at all."
Borussia Dortmund will hope to use the international break to fix their defensive issues and figure out a way to perform better away from home. A number of difficult challenges lie in store for Nuri Sahin's side after the break, including trips to Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League) and VfL Wolfsburg (DFB-Pokal), and a home game against RB Leipzig (Bundesliga).
And unless the team finds solutions to these issues quickly, Borussia Dortmund's hopes of competing for trophies this season could extinguish soon.
