Serhou Guirassy completes Borussia Dortmund move
By Brook Genene
After plenty of transfer complications, Serhou Guirassy has finally sealed his move to the Black and Yellows in a deal worth around 18.5 million euros.
Following a successful season at VfB Stuttgart during which he scored 30 goals, Serhou Guirassy was the target of many top clubs. The in-form striker played a vital role in lifting Stuttgart from relegation battlers in 2022/23 to second place ahead of Bayern Munich last season.
Under new head coach Nuri Sahin, Guirassy is expected to lead the line and transform the Borussia Dortmund attack. He seems a player more suited to an attacking possession based side, and will hope to keep his excellent goalscoring run going at the Westfalenstadion.
Guirassy’s transfer to Dortmund wasn’t without its own bit of drama. The striker was supposed to sign last week but a medical examination showed that he was sustaining an injury from last season. This delayed the announcement and caused doubt about whether the move would go through.
He was examined by a knee specialist earlier this week. The results were positive and the injury was not as severe as initially feared. The 28 year old was also told that he didn’t need to undergo surgery.
It is still unclear how long Serhou Guirassy will be sidelined for. But Borussia Dortmund will hope that he can link-up with his new teammates in the near future. Whether Sahin will use two strikers remains to be seen, and it is also unclear what Guirassy's arrival will mean for the club's other strikers. What is certain is the fact that Guirassy will add some much-needed firepower to the BVB attack.
