Three Borussia Dortmund players looking to make a strong impression during pre-season
By Brook Genene
Nuri Sahin has officially started his role as Borussia Dortmund head coach. Following the return of the first-team players for pre-season training, the squad is working hard to get ready for the new campaign. While some of the players have been away at the Euros, a lot of the first-team squad is already back in training.
Players that didn’t get much attention from Edin Terzic will now look to kick-start their careers at Borussia Dortmund. Here we take a look at three players that will look to earn a fresh start under Sahin during pre-season.
Niklas Süle
Everyone was surprised when they saw Niklas Süle return for pre-season training in fantastic shape. The centre-back seems to have lost around 8-10 kg of weight, according to multiple reports in Germany.
The defender looks determined to win back his position in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI after sitting on the bench for much of last season. With the signing of Waldemar Anton and the fantastic Nico Schlotterbeck, there will certainly be strong competition for a starting berth.
If Süle manages to stay fit and maintain his match rhythm, then it is plausible he will be offered more opportunities in the starting XI. Sahin may also wish to ease Anton into the squad, so the chances of the 28 year old playing regularly are strong.
