Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund: Bundesliga Team News, Preview
Borussia Dortmund will be desperate to return to winning ways this weekend as they make the trip to Köpenick to face Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
After a strong start to 2024, things are once again looking bleak for Borussia Dortmund. Last weekend's capitulation to TSG Hoffenheim once again highlighted the many weaknesses the Black and Yellows have in their roster. And things do not get any easier on Saturday, as BVB go up against Union Berlin away from home.
The Berliners are in the midst of somewhat of a resurgance and are currently on a four-game unbeaten run. While they haven't come close to matching the extraordinary heights they reached last season, Union Berlin did come close to beating Borussia Dortmund in the reverse fixture.
BVB have also tasted defeats in three of their four trips to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, so Edin Terzic's side will have to be at their very best in order to get the three points on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund welcomed Felix Nmecha back into team training on Wednesday, but the midfielder will miss the trip to the German capital. Sebastien Haller is still injured, while in-form forward Donyell Malen is sidelined after picking up a yellow-card suspension. Gregor Kobel also remains sidelined.
Emre Can will be in the spotlight after a disappointing performance at centre-back against Hoffenheim. He is likely to return to his preferred midfield role on Saturday, with Niklas Süle and Mats Hummels both avaialble to play from the start in defence.
Union Berlin will be without the suspended Robin Gosens on Saturday, but will have the rest of their roster available to them. The wing-back's absence is a big blow for Nenad Bjelica's side, as he is their top-scorer this season. Kevin Volland and Benedict Hollerbach will look to step up in attack for Union Berlin against Borussia Dortmund.
