Who is the highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund?
By Kian Long
Borussia Dortmund has built quite the reputation for being a "seller club" over the years. However, this is by no means a bad financial model. In fact, it brings in plenty of revenue for the club, hence their consistent place in European competition.
Football is, for better or worse, a money-orientated sport. In many ways, BVB are a breath of fresh air since they remind fans of the good old days, where players genuinely played for the badge. That said, it is still important that BVB take care of their players from a financial sense.
With that being said, let's take a look at Borussia Dortmund's wage bill and answer the question, who is the highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund?
Who is the highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund?
1. Niklas Süle (€192,308 per week)
The highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund is Niklas Süle, earning €192,308 per week. This is a guaranteed €10,000,000 annually before bonuses. Süle could also receive €1,000,000 on top of his salary through bonuses.
Borussia Dortmund signed Süle from Bayern Munich in 2022. The defender has become a BVB fan favourite since then, proving himself as a mainstay in the starting lineup.
It is impossible to analyse Süle without mentioning his sheer physical presence. He is 195cm tall and very commanding in the air. This benefits Borussia Dortmund in both boxes, which should never be looked at with an upturned nose.
Niklas Süle is under contract at Borussia Dortmund until June 2026.
2. Serhou Guirassy (€181,346 per week)
The second highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund is Serhou Guirassy. The French-born Guinea international earns €181,346 per week, which equals €9,430,000 per year. In his current deal, Guirassy does not earn bonuses at Borussia Dortmund.
Serhou Guirassy was signed from Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart in the 2023 summer transfer window. He was an in-demand player, showcasing his incredible goal-scoring form in the German top flight.
Guirassy is capable of playing out wide and he often does drift out wide while out of possession to receive the ball from his teammates. However, his strongest position is, by no doubt, through the middle. He can be found exploiting space perfectly in the opposing box.
Signing in 2024, Serhou Guirassy is under his current deal until June 2028.
3. Gregor Kobel (€173,077 per week)
The third highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund is Gregor Kobel. The Swiss goalkeeper earns €173,077 per week, which is an annual salary of €9,000,000. As things stand, Kobel does not earn bonuses on top of his salary.
Like Guirassy, Gregor Kobel was signed by Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart. However, Kobel was signed three years earlier than Guirassy.
Gregor Kobel is the number one option for Borussia Dortmund between the sticks. He provides a great presence and is not afraid to command the defenders ahead of him. He has quick feet and he is able to play out from the back, a staple-piece for goalkeepers in the modern era.
Gregor Kobel's current deal at Borussia Dortmund expires in June 2028, having signed an extension in 2023.
4. Sébastien Haller (€163,462 per week)
The fourth highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund is Sébastien Haller, who earns €163,462 per week. This is an annual salary of €8,500,000. On top of his current deal, Haller does not earn any bonuses.
Admittedly, Sébastien Haller is the most surprising player in this list. After all, he is not a sure starter for Borussia Dortmund. Still, he plays a key role and he's reliable when called upon.
It is also surprising, considering Haller does not play for Borussia Dortmund, at least for the 2024/25 season. He is out on loan in La Liga. Still, Borussia Dortmund cover a large chunk of his salary.€163,462 per week still comes out of Dortmund's balance to Haller, despite the Ivorian being on loan.
Currently, Haller is under contract until June 2026.
5. Emre Can (€153,846 per week)
The fifth highest paid player at Borussia Dortmund is Emre Can. The German midfielder earns €153,846 per week in Dortmund. This is an annual salary amounting to €8,000,000. Emre Can does not earn bonuses in his current deal.
Emre Can is an experienced professional, having played for some of Europe's biggest clubs. He has played for Borussia Dortmund since 2020 and already established himself as a club legend, playing over 100 league matches in yellow and black.
Emre Can is a versatile and dynamic player, who can play anywhere in the midfield. He can also step in at centre-back or full-back, if required.
As things stand, Emre Can is under contract at Borussia Dortmund until June 2026, having signed an extension in 2023.
