Predicted Borussia Dortmund Lineup vs TSG Hoffenheim (3-5-2)
Goalkeeper & Defenders
Gregor Kobel (GK) – Kobel has not earned a clean sheet since the first of March, and he’ll be looking for a good performance in this match. He’s the obvious choice between the sticks.
Niklas Süle (RB) – Niklas Süle has had a resurgence late this season, and I expect Niko Kovač to stick with what’s working. Süle showed some of his best tackling in the win against Barcelona, and his form has come at the perfect time.
Waldemar Anton (CB) – Anton has earned his place in Niko Kovač’s good graces with his work ethic and on-field performances. While Emre Can might be back, I expect Anton to retain the role of CB.
Ramy Bensebaini (LB) – Apart from an own goal against Barcelona and an unfortunate touch that led to Mönchengladbach’s first goal last weekend, Bensebaini has been at the top of his game, shoring up the left side of defense.
Midfield
Yan Couto (RWB) – Yan Couto has had his ups and downs, but he seems to fit the right side of Kovač’s midfield a bit better than Julian Ryerson, as the Brazilian excels as a wing-back. Couto’s sprightly playstyle has just begun to shine for Dortmund, and he’ll likely get another shot to showcase it tomorrow.
Felix Nmecha (CDM) – With midfield injuries in the likes of Marcel Sabitzer and Pascal Groß, Felix Nemecha’s return to fitness couldn’t have come at a better time. He might lament the penalty he conceded last weekend, but Nmecha also scored, so that should build some confidence.
Carney Chukwuemeka (CM) – Assuming he is fully fit, I expect Chukwuemeka to make another start for Dortmund. His introduction last weekend was the catalyst for BVB’s three-goal flurry, as Chukwuemeka was involved in the build-up of each goal.
Julian Brandt (CAM) – Julian Brandt’s season has been underwhelming, and there’s no denying that. I believe he will start tomorrow due to a lack of other suitable midfielders. Brandt has been poor, but I still expect him to get the nod over Gio Reyna. If moved into a CM role behind or alongside Chukwuemeka, I think we may see a different side of the German, with some of the playmaking pressure relieved.
Daniel Svensson (LWB) – Svensson has been very good since joining, and his goal last weekend will help build his momentum. He’s all but a Dortmund player at this point.
Forwards
Serhou Guirassy (ST) – Guirassy will hopefully do what he’s paid to: score. The Guinean has found the net 16 times in the Bundesliga this term, and he’ll look to add to his tally.
Karim Adeyemi (ST) – Karim Adeyemi will most likely start alongside Guirassy in a front two. Adeyemi’s speed will likely be a counterattacking outlet for Kobel’s long balls.
