Borussia Dortmund saw off Augsburg 2-0 at the Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga on Saturday as Karim Adeyemi and Luca Reggiani were on target.
The BVB were dominant throughout, boasting more possession and creating more chances while the Fuggerstadter were kept on the backfoot.
It took them only 13 minutes to go in front as Maximilian Beier carved the Augsburg defense open with a clinical pass for Adeyemi to finish.
Dortmund's momentum continued through the second stanza when Reggiani scored just before the hour mark to double their advantage as Augsburg's night went from bad to worse.
The win solidified their position in second with 58 points from 26 games while their rivals from Bavaria remained in ninth following back-to-back defeats.
Adeyemi, the lucky charm
Karim Adeyemi's goals have been a lucky charm for Borussia Dortmund, for whenever he's scored the side avoided a loss. So when the German was on target in the 13th minute, the BVB could have been excused for feeling confident of their chances here.
This was the sixth Bundesliga game this season in which the 24-year-old scored a goal and their fifth win. The only time that the Black and Yellows failed to secure all three points was a 3-3 draw with Stuttgart in November.
Overall since joining Dortmund in 2022, he's netted in 19 league matches of which the side has won a staggering 17 and drawn only twice. Niko Kovac will be hoping to see him net more in the future as it could massively boost their title ambitions too in a retrospect.
Reggiani, the history maker
The young Italian gun didn't only open his goalscoring account for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, but also scripted history by becoming the youngest ever from his nation to score a goal in the German Bundesliga.
Born on 9 January 2008, the recently-turned 18-year-old had been developing into a promising young prospect with the club's youth side this season and had even broken into the senior team earlier this year.
On Saturday, Reggiani was handed a start as Ramy Bensebaini was suspended for accumulation of yellow cards and he made sure Kovac's faith in him was repaid as the Italian scored a goal and looked solid in his duels too.
Set-pieces, a love affair
Borussia Dortmund have come to love scoring from set-pieces. In fact, it's their secret weapon now as they have struck at least once from a set-piece in nine of their last 10 Bundesliga matches.
Norwegian dead-ball specialist Julian Ryerson alone has delivered a corner leading to eight of their goals during this run, a remarkable feat unmatched by anyone else in the Bundesliga this season.
