RW Oberhausen 1-3 Borussia Dortmund: Player ratings from a bright start to pre-season campaign

Borussia Dortmund returned to action for the first time since the summer break with a 3-1 win over fourth-tier German side RW Oberhausen on Saturday.

Timur Kesim fired the hosts in front after just five minutes to stun their mighty visitors, who although responded in style eventually.

Justin Lerma equalized for the BVB just before half-time on his first appearance since joining from Independiente, while substitutes Serhou Guirassy and Takato Yamamoto came off the bench to score apiece after the break.

A bright start to the pre-season campaign from Dortmund, who had plenty of positive takeaways from the game. Now let's rate how each of the players fared at the Niederrheinstadion:

Ratings for the Starting XI

Alexander Meyer - 6.5: Beaten early on, but had little to do thereafter.

Jan-Luca Reidl - 6: Was beaten by Kesim on pace for Oberhausen's opener.

Filippo Mane - 7: A reliable presence in defense for Dortmund with one clearance and two blocked shots.

Luca Reggiani - 7: Strong defensively but made a bigger impact at the other end of the field with two shots on target.

Yan Couto - 7.5: Menacing on the right with three key passes and six crosses.

Jobe Bellingham - 7: Battled hard for the ball and came away with 100% win record in duels.

Justin Lerma - 8.5: Brought the BVB level with a composed finish from close range.

Almugera Kabar - 7: Won all five ground duels but sloppy in possession.

Arne Wessels - 7: Carried the ball forward well and laid three crosses too.

Mathis Albert - 6.5: Was caught offside once but still gave Oberhausen plenty to think.

Fabio Silva - 5: Wasted a glorious chance to score in the first half.

Ratings for Substitutes

Patrick Drewes - 7: Replaced Meyer and looked more assured in goal than him.

Joane Gadou - 6.5: Another summer signing who made his debut but was eclipsed by other young guns around him.

Elias Benkara - 7: Passed the ball around well and wasn't tested enough in defense.

Miguel Adje - 7: Demonstrated prolific dribbling ability to get the ball forward a couple of times.

Romeo Ritter - 5: Was second best in most of his duels and even got himself booked.

Enzo Duarte - 7.5: Assisted Guirassy for their second goal.

Takato Yamamoto - 8.5: Was involved in the second one before scoring the third.

Ayman Azhil - 7.5: Carried the ball forward well and seemed composed under pressure.

Samuele Inacio - 7.5: Kept biting at the heels of Oberhausen players for possession.

Serhou Guirassy - 8.5: A clinical finish to mark Dortmund's second goal.

Marwan-Omir Mirza - 6.5: Made three crosses but looked shaky in duels.
