Borussia Dortmund finished the 2025-26 Bundesliga season as the most defensively resolute side after conceding only 34 goals in 34 games.
While it was the driving factor behind their second place finish and a respectable 73-points total, the BVB also managed to score more than goals than just two sides in the division.
The record of 70 goals was surpassed only by VfB Stuttgart (71) and champions Bayern Munich (122), and it came from all across the field as a staggering 17 players were on target for them.
Serhou Guirassy was obviously the top-scorer 17 strikes to his name, followed by Karim Adeyemi and the outgoing Julian Brandt with seven goals each.
Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini highest scoring Bundesliga defenders
Dortmund's defender accounted for 18 of their goals, with 10 netted by only Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini. The sensational centre-back duo bagged five goals each to emerge as unlikely offensive threats which certainly proved helpful in their endavors.
It also puts them among the highest scoring defenders for the 2025-26 season in the German top-flight. In fact, their tally was matched only by Maximilian Mittelstadt of Stuttgart, who also struck five times. The one he scored while playing as a midfielder is not included.
Where the duo scored
Dortmund won in all but one game that Schlotterbeck scored in, the 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich in February. Moreover, three of his goals came from set-pieces, with the towering German exercising his aerial dominance to head home the incoming corners.
In addition to his five goals, Schlotterbeck also assisted twice, against Hamburg and Stuttgart in back-to-back games in November (when he still hadn't opened his goalscoring account yet). So that makes it seven goal contributions from the player. Impressive!
As for Bensebaini, the Algerian too took some time to open his tally but his first goal was vital in getting them a point as the match ended 1-1 in Freiburg. He would later come back to haunt them at the Westfalinstadion was the defender was on target again, netting in a more resounding 4-0 victory this time.
His best moment though, came against Hamburg when he netted two late penalties to help Dortmund fight back from two goals down to win 3-2 at home. For both attempts, Bensebaini was cool and composed, dispatching his chances clinically.
And just like Schlotterbeck, he too bagged two assists to go with his goals, one each against Hoffenheim and Freiburg on matchday 30 and 31.
