Serhou Guirassy finished the 2025-26 season with 22 goals in all competitions, a massive decline from the 38 he managed in his debut campaign, but still the highest in the squad by a big margin.

He often popped up with crucial goals; ones that helped them turn the match around as the Guinean was not only stat-padding, but actually making a difference for them in the bigger picture too.

However, a close look at his number would tell you that the striker's form grew patchy after a fine start, wherein he bagged goals in their first four matches in all competitions.

Guirassy's scoring streak fizzled out and goals came once in a while. Much to Dortmund's detriment, he's going through a similar spell in the current term too.

Before the international break, the 30-year-old was on fire, netting four goals and teeing up two other from just six games to average one goal contribution per game in all competitions.

But lately, the forward has looked devoid of that attacking firepower. Since returning from the international break, Guirassy has failed to find the net in three consecutive matches.

Add in the blanks he drew against Paderborn and Stuttgart before the mid-season hiatus, and his goalless run now stands at five games, one of the worst of his career.

Given the former VfB Stuttgart man's prolific record against Union Berlin, he was widely expected to return to the scoresheet yesterday, especially with the Iron Ones boasting the second worst defense in the German top-flight this season.

What instead panned out, was a rather meek affair for him - and the whole squad - at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei. Guirassy was closely marked by Berlin, who cut off all the supply lines for him and tracked every move of his.

The striker lost possession 14 times in the match and finished with an xG of 0.49. He attempted three shots, one of which was blocked by his own teammate Mathis Albert, which truly summed up their poor state of affairs on the night.

So often the game-changing talisman for Dortmund since his switch from Stuttgart in 2024, Guirassy is currently on a low-ebb. In fact, it could be his lowest in two years at the club, for he's never been this mediocre over a stretch of time.

Whatever the reason may be, it's not helping his team, whose season has started to unravel after showing great promise earlier on.
