Borussia Dortmund beat Werder Bremen 3-2 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday as Marcel Sabitzer won it at the death for the home side with a spectacular free-kick.

The Austrian curled a fabulous strike from roughly 25 yards out in the dying seconds to send the BVB through after they relinquished another two-goal advantage.

Serhou Guirassy and Carney Chukwuemeka scored a goal apiece inside the opening 20 minutes to put them 2-0 up, but Niclas Fullkrug came off the bench to net twice for Bremen in the second-half.

With the clock winding down and extra-time looming, Dortmund were desperately looking for the winner and Felix Nmecha won a free-kick from a good position near the box.

Sabitzer stood up to take it and went for goal himself, driving it into the near post beyond Karl Hein's dispairing dive. Here are some of the best fan reactions to the match:

One X user was aghast at seeing Dortmund lose a 2-0 lead for the second time in a row against Bremen:

"It's absolutely insane how they let the game slip away again. I just don't get it.
Thank God we're through to the next round."

Another BVB supporter tweeted:

"WHAT THE HELL"

This supporter was shocked at Sabitzer's skill from the dead-ball:

"Of all people, Marcel Sabitzer😂😂unbelievable!
Luckily he can take free kicks"

One X user called Nico had a rather controversial opinion, defending Niko Kovac:

"It’s absolutely crazy how many “fans” here are posting—they can’t even bring themselves to be happy. If Ryerson hadn’t committed that stupid foul, Bremen wouldn’t have been able to fight their way back like that. And yet, people are once again trying to pin the blame on Kovač. It’s become completely absurd."

One X user wasn't convinced with the result:

"Still embarrassing. Now Sabitzer starting lineup for the next 20 games"

The sentiment was echoed by another X user:

"Despite all the joy - you can't play football like that after a 2-0 lead, not for the umpteenth time. Unbelievable."

One X user cheekily shared a picture of Sabitzer with the Ballon d'Or and wrote:

"biggest robbery in football history"

There's growing disgruntlement about Dortmund's sloppy style of play though, as this X user made it clear:

"It’s the same old misery every time under Kovac. Instead of building on a 2-0 lead, they resort to a destructive, passive style of play—stifling the game to death—until, inevitably, it’s 2-2. Sabitzer may have saved the coach’s skin today, but this cowardly brand of football is an absolute disgrace to #BVB! #BVBSVW #KovacOut"
