Borussia Dortmund are away to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga tomorrow as their perfect start to the new season will be put through the wringer against a bogey team that has had their numbers in recent clashes.
Here's how the rivals stack up in their last five meetings:
Dortmund 0-1 Stuttgart (April 2024)
Stuttgart had already beaten Dortmund twice by this point, first in the Bundesliga and then in the DFB-Pokal. Both were at the MHPArena. But Die Roten came back to haunt the BVB in Dortmund too, with a certain Serhou Guirassy netting the only goal of the match. In fact, it was the third consecutive time he scored against them. The Prussians were so impressed, they shelled out €18 million for him later that summer.
Stuttgart 5-1 Dortmund (September 2024)
Guirassy's first visit to Stuttgart since the switch to Dortmund though, ended in a nightmare as his former side netted five past his current employers. The Guinean marked his return to Baden-Württemberg with a goal, but the embarrassing loss on the day thoroughly eclipsed it.
Dortmund 1-2 Stuttgart (February 2025)
Dortmund's current manager Niko Kovac's first match after replacing Nuri Sahin was at home to Stuttgart and the side handed him a baptism by fire, inflicting a 2-1 loss. It was a heated contested with five players in the books and one - Julian Ryerson - sent off. Stuttgart also extended their winning streak against Die Borussen to five, their best ever run in the fixture.
Dortmund 3-3 Stuttgart (November 2025)
The BVB were able to snap their losing run to Stuttgart here, but not before conceding a stoppage-time equalizer. They initially saw a two-goal cushion wiped out by Deniz Undav's double, but Karim Adeyemi struck in the 89th minute in what appeared to be the winner. But the visitors, as they so often have in recent times, ruined BVB's day with a third goal in the first added minute as Undav completed a sensational hat-trick.
Stuttgart 0-2 Dortmund (April 2026)
With Niko Kovac's still within a shout of the Bundesliga title in their race with Bayern, the BVB came into the fixture on the back of three league wins on the bounce. But that run nearly ended as Stuttgart held them goalless until the 80th minute, when Adeyemi finally broke the deadlock. Julian Brandt added a second deep in extra-time to seal the contest. Dortmund had finally ended their seven-game winless run against Die Roten, whom they beat for the first time October 2022.
