Borussia Dortmund collapsed to yet another defeat as Borussia Monchengladbach beat them 1-0 in the Bundesliga on Sunday with Haris Tabakovic netting the winner in the 88th minute.

The BVB came into the fixture with their confidence restored following a 4-0 drubbing of Freiburg in their last match and boasted a good record against a struggling Foals too.

However, the hosts of the night tore the script apart to appear more dominant in the match and creating the better chances too.

Nico Elvedi seemed to have fired Gladbach in front half an hour into the game but it was ruled out for offside. Dortmund picked up the paces after the break but lacked the cutting edge of the night.

Die Borussen then saw their persistence pay off in the 88th minute with Tabaković getting onto the end of a throughball from Rocco Reitz before slotting it home to snatch all three points.

The Black and Yellows didn't have enough time for recovery and succumbed to their third loss from four games and a fifth defeat overall.

Another late collapse

How many times have we seen this from Dortmund this season? They could be leading or be on level terms, only to concede in the dying embers.

Well, it happened again today. The match was seemingly headed for a rare 0-0 draw between the sides only for the BVB to concede a goal late on.

A night of few chances

Dortmund were totally lackluster for a good part of the opening stanza and were lucky to have entered the break on level terms with Nico Elvedi's strike ruled out for offside.

But they returned from the break stronger, wrestling back control of the ball and having regained their structure. Still though, the side struggled to create proper chances on the night.

Dortmund couldn't really make possession count and ultimately ended up paying a hefty price for it.

Bundesliga safety assured

As for Gladbach, their worst nightmare is over: the prospect of a relegation is officially off the table as their Bundesliga status is now confirmed.

The win, only their eighth of the season from 32 games, brought them up to 11th place on the league table with 35 points, nine clear of the bottom-three with only two games remaining.

If they were lose to both their remaining top-flight matches, Gladbach still won't finish lower than 17th. A 19th consecutive season in the German top division is guaranteed.
