Germany have announced their 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup as the four-time champions aim to revive themselves on the biggest stage after two disastrous editions.
Having begun their campaign with a shock 2-0 loss to Slovakia, Die Mannschaft were quick to turn their fortunes around and won their next five to clinch Group A and seal their World Cup spot.
On Thursday, head coach Julian Naglesmann revealed the list of stars he will be taking to the United States, Canada and Mexico showpiece next month and it features four Borussia Dortmund players.
Waldemar Anton
He may not be the most headline-grabbing name in the club and country roster, but Waldemar Anton has quietly proved his value to both with flawless displays in defense.
In the recently concluded 2025-26 season, Anton emerged as BVB's chief defensive anchor. His exemplary positional awareness combined with a knack for crunch tackles saw the German become a force to be reckoned with in defense that rivals often struggled to get the better of.
Nico Schlotterbeck
When speaking of Dortmund's defense, Nico Schlotterbeck isn't far behind. The 26-year-old returned from an injury stronger and sturdier although his form grew wobbly as the fixture list got increasingly congested.
Yet, Schlotterbeck is a talented centre-back who thrives under pressure while his towering frame allows him to be a threat during set-pieces too. He bagged five goals for the BVB in the 2025-26 season, more than any defender in the Bundesliga.
Felix Nmecha
A central midfielder by trade, Felix Nmecha's all-round ability made him a central figure to Dortmund's set-up. He tracked back to provide a protective shield for the backline while also playing a key role in accelerating the match tempo.
The 25-year-old remains a relatively untested quantity at international level with just six appearances to his name but his talents are too hard to ignore as Nemcha could be an effective back-up in Germany's defensive structure.
Maximilian Beier
The most advanced Dortmund player summoned by Germany is Maximilian Beier, who had a terrific campaign for his club with 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. These stats were definitely the driving force behind his inclusion in the squad.
Beier is not only good at finding gaps in defenses and crossing, but also hooking up passes to create attacking phases while having a keen eye for goal. He's never scored for Germany in his seven caps so far, but will be aiming to bag a few at the showpiece.
