Borussia Dortmund have one of the most talented squads in Europe, boasting an envious mix of prodigiously young talents as well as uber-reliable old-guards who combined to oversee a hugely successful 2025-26 campaign.
Yet, it wasn't all perfect with the side. There were a few rotten eggs too who failed to light up the Signal Iduna Park this season, or just couldn't keep up the consistency and went off the boil, much to their chagrin.
In keeping with that, here are the three most disappointing Dortmund players from 2025-26 season:
3) Emre Can
The BVB skipper spent a huge chunk of his time on the sidelines with injuries. He missed the first few weeks of the season with an adductor problem. After coming back into the side, Can was visibly lacking his usual best in defense.
The German struck three goals when fit, but after suffering a few more weeks out with another bout of adductor injury, succumbed to a season-ending cruciate ligament tear. Last season too, he missed 19 games, which shows that his fitness has become a cause for concern in the club.
2) Niklas Sule
Niklas Sule hasn't only been disappointing this season, but right since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022. His move was supposed to tighten up their screws in defense but the centre-back couldn't really produce his best for the club.
Lacking in depth and composure, Sule looked out of place more often than not. His contract drama at the club further exacerbated his situation before the two parties decided not to extend it beyond this summer.
1) Karim Adeyemi
At the start of 2025-26 season, it was unimanigable for Karim Adeyemi to feature in a list like this. In fact, the player's blistering run of form meant he was a contender for one of the best players of the season at BVB.
But then his form nosedived big-time in the second-half of the 2025-26 season, so much so that Adeyemi even lost his place in the XI. His discplinary issues on and off the field didn't serve him any good either.
All this culminated in the 24-year-old getting overlooked by Germany for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as head coach Julian Naglesmann didn't call him up to his final 26-man squad, condemning Adeyemi to watch his team play from home.
Now there are questions over his Dortmund future too with rumors linking him with PSG.
