Borussia Dortmund have reportedly identified Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade as a potential replacement for Serhou Guirassy.
Despite the Guinean international's highly productive spell at the club since joining in 2024, rumors suggest his future at the Signal Iduna Park is up in the air as the BVB aims for a squad overhaul this summer.
While Hoffenheim's Fisnik Asllani was originally considered, German news outlet BILD has now added Woltemade to the list of possible options too for Dortmund.
Signed on a club-record fee of £65 million plus in 2025, the striker hasn't fully lived up to its exorbitant price tag with the Magpies yet, netting only 10 goals from 45 games in all competitions including seven in the Premier League.
Nonetheless, given his young age and vast range of talents, the Germany international continues to garner attention from the bigger quarters of Europe, including Dortmund.
Reports suggest he is not considering a move away from the English top-flight so soon although things could still change depending on how Newcastle's season unfolds at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Despite a massive outlay of almost £250 million last summer, Newcastle United have struggled in the Premier League as they languish in 12th place of the standings with only 12 wins from 31 games so far. As things stand, the club is set to miss out on European football altogether next season, let alone the Champions League, which could incur them massive financial losses.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup also coming up, Woltemade is likely to be a part of Julian Naglesmann's Germany squad and his performances at the US-Canada-Mexico showpiece will also play a big part in any potential move post that.
Even in the most ideal scenario, it's said that the 24-year-old could only join a side on loan with a permanent transfer highly unlikely.
As Dortmund come with a promise of Champions League as well as a central role in their attacking vanguard, Woltemade could be prompted to consider it seriously as he's been in and out of the Newcastle squad lately while also being forced to play more deeply to his liking.
He's also five years younger than Guirassy, so a successful loan spell means Die Borussen could consider a permanent move for him next year as their attack will be sorted.
Guirassy is 29 years now and his next move could the last major transfer of his career. Signed for a meager sum of €18 million from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, the Guinean has been an instrumental figure in Dortmund's attack ever since.
He enjoyed a phenomenal debut campaign for the side, netting 38 goals from 50 games in all competitions, including a sensational hat-trick against Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals last year. Although his form has comparatively declined this season, Guirassy is still the top-scorer for Dortmund with 18 goals in 40 appearances.
